Thursday 1 September 2016, a Falcon 9 rocket from the US company SpaceX has exploded (1:10) on its launch pad during a test of its engines at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launcher and its satellite were destroyed, but there were no injuries. The explosion would have occurred during the tank filling operations. The Falcon 9 rocket was in the preparation phase before the launch of an Israeli communications satellite Amos-6, scheduled for Saturday. With a weight of 5.5 tonnes, this satellite would be the heaviest ever launched into orbit by SpaceX.
